Papers of George Peirce Clark, 1812, 1947-1948, and 1963.

The collection documents research conducted by Clark while writing an article entitled, "James Russell Lowell's study of the classics before entering Harvard," (1963). The collection contains a copy of the article; an 1812 Greek textbook owned by Daniel Wild (who received a degree from the University of Vermont in 1827) and used in the school of William Welds attended by Russell; a letter dated May 30, 1947 from Lowell's grandson James B. Lowell to Clark regarding books owned by Lowell in his grandson's possession; a letter from Kimball Elkins, assistant in the Harvard University Archives, dated June 3, 1948, to Professor Samuel Eliot Morison answering a question posed by Clark regarding the 19th century practice of separating classes into sections; and a letter, dated June 4, 1948, forwarding Elkins' letter on to Clark.
